Chameleons are primarly insectivores, but will also eat fruits and plants, so they are omnivores.
They have a very simple digestive system.
Process:
-
Food is chewed up with their small triangular teeth by moving jaw and is
-
pushed down the esophagus with help from the tongue
-
into the tubular stomach
-
through the intestinal tract
(where acids and exymes break down the food and nutrients are absorbed)
-
waste exits out through the cloaca.
